24th April 2014 - Steam and Scream!

Shall we gym? Shall we? Yeah. Nope. Not what we're doing! Leg is still bad. Don't want to aggravate it. I'm starting to get annoyed by the lack of gym in my life. I miss the treadmill!

So yeah, off to work we go. Nothing exciting happened at all, but I was nice and busy. Have loads to do in the next couple of days.

After work I went home and decided that I needed to keep on with the productivity! Plus Paul needed a shirt for tomorrow. So a hot date with my iron was called for!

Didn't get a lot done but gone some and some is better than none so I claim tonight as a success!

We had dinner and watched Arrow, which was pretty shocking! Then we went to bed and Paul attacked me.

Ok, so I asked him to massage my leg but IT REALLY FLIPPIN' HURT!

Google made me a nice gif. Isn't that nice of them? Thank goodness it doesn't have sound because all you'd hear was me screaming in pain!

It did help though. Fingers crossed it keeps improving!

23rd April 2014 - Naughty naughty, very naughty!

Paul had to be up and out of the office early this morning. Boo.

Paul being up and out early lead to Barney being the naughtiest of naughty boys all morning. He was chasing and attacking Maia pretty much from the time I got up to the time I left the house. I had to move Maia on more than one occasion to get her out of the way of his wrath. No idea why he got the devil in him but I was not amused.

While Maia was out of the way, he took out his vengeance on something else.

Move over, Andrex puppy - Barney will give you a run for your money. Urgh. So naughty.

After doing a little clearing up I headed to work for another loooooong day in the office. SO. DULL.

After work I came home and prepped myself for an evening of #Whedonsday action! WHOOP! It's BA-ACK! We watched some Buffy, which we had neglected for a few weeks and the most recent episode of SHIELD which was also good and really upping it's game. Shame there are only a couple of episodes left this season.

Once #Whedonsday ended we had peppermint tea and headed for bed. Only I couldn't get in. Someone else was being me.

That boy is so cute. SO NAUGHTY but so cute, darn it!

Once he moved, it was sleepy time!

Monday, 28 April 2014

22nd April 2014 - It's the Tuesday Monday!

Shall we gym this morning? NAH! My ankle still isn't right so another rest day was called for. Not impressed with this ouchy ankle situation, I have to be honest.

I went to work and it was right back to it without any sort of build up. No rest for the wicked, I suppose!

It was another busy day but it could have been a lot worse I suppose. It was also very dull. I don't like dull days. They make me cranky.

Still, at least when I got home from work there was a nice delivery awaiting me this time!

It's part of Annabel's birthday present! WHOOP! Glad it's arrived!

For the rest of the evening we caught up on the new tv stuff that we had to watch, ate leftover lamb curry (which should be goat, but Asda don't sell it!) and went to bed!

Another boring day down!

21st April 2014 - Heisenberg Says Relax. If Heisenberg says it, I must obey!

Yay for free day off! I love it when this happens! Extra long weekends are always welcome!

Paul went for a run first thing and I did a bit of sorting out (but nothing really) and waited for him to come home. Then it came time for what we'd been promising ourselves for a few days. A Breaking Bad Marathon!

We had some little snacks and cracked on with a few eps. We also cracked on with something else...

See what I did there? This was the result of Paul hitting the egg against his head to make a dint in it! It wouldn't break otherwise!

We watched a few eps of season 1 and got to about half way through season 2 when we decided to stop. It's all a bit...sombre...and we needed some light hearted entertainment. Which was provided by the kitties!

I think Barney won!

We didn't head to bed too late as we have to work tomorrow. Boo.

So nothing much happened today but it was a good day! :)

20th April 2014 - Family fun!

Guess what I did this morning?! If you guessed got up and went for a run, you'd be wrong. If you guessed stayed in bed while Paul watched the Grand Prix WE HAVE A WINNER!

Yeah yeah. But it's my holiday and I'll do what I want to!

There was more needed vegetating done when I was done with my trying to sleep! Making plans and things that need to be done. Thinking about doing them is productive, right?

Yep - it's Maia's paws again. Just to show she does do this a lot! And her little back paws are just so cute!

We had breakfast and watched some football, then I got up and got into the shower. Yes, I got up, showered and dressed today! IT'S AN EASTER MIRACLE!

Paul also got showered and then we headed over to Lymm to Paul's cousin's house for a little Kirkham family get together!

Paul watched more football and I played with the adorable Scarlett, Oscar and Sebastian!

The men tended a barbecue and the women congregated in the kitchen. Typical! It was nice to see everyone, plus I realised I haven't actually seen Paul's parents since we left theirs at Christmas. Oops. Bad daughter in law!

I gushed over Edward and showed lots of pictures. We got lots of baby questions fired at us which I deflected with being broody for kittens! People kinda gave up then! Until they'd had more alcohol when they started again!

We had food, watched football, talked, played, laughed, bounced on the trampoline...successful day I think.

Plus we got to meet Paul's cousin's little puppy, Pip!

Isn't she cute and tiny?! She's about 7 months old or so and a cutie pie! Paul's aunt had brought her dog too which, if you remember, is a giant! They were playing away quite merrily but Pip got quite tired and I think a little bit afraid of Asali.

I went to find the kids and we watched Frozen. I've not seen it before. It was fine. Not sure what I was expecting to be honest! It was nice to hear Scarlett singing Let It Go, though. Even I know the words to that song, having never seen the movie! That's how overplayed it is!

That's when Pip came for a cuddle with Paul's cousin. And promptly peed on her. LOLZ! It was really funny...but also not because it is a relatively new sofa so we had to strip the sofa cushions as well. Kerry, Paul's cousin in law, tried to grab Pip, but she jumped on the sofa by me and promptly widdled again. Nice. At least she didn't get me!

More sofa cushions to wash. Poor little Pip. I think she was tired and a bit afraid to go and pee outside because of Asali. She was very good, but got told off and was hiding her head in shame when we went outside to say goodbye.

We got home and had a couple of glasses of wine and watched an ep of Breaking Bad. We decided to marathon the show tomorrow. What better way to spend Easter Monday?

19th April 2014 - Ruthless

Another lazy morning for me. Paul got up to watch the Grand Prix qualifying and I lazed around, because I enjoy doing that. I'm pretty sure you've picked up on that by now, right?

Besides, I was being pinned down. What more could I do? NOTHING, I TELLS YOU!

I decided I needed to do something productive this weekend so it's not just a waste of time away from the office. I always seem to complain that I don't have enough time to get things done. I was going to do things.

Except I didn't get as much done as I wanted to.

I did, however, go through two of my 3 wardrobes and all the drawers and got rid of clothes that don't fit or I won't wear any more!

That's a whole lot of clothing!

I bagged it up and there are almost 2 full bin bags of clothes!

These will be taken to a charity shop near us very soon. Hopefully they can make some money from it! We could take it to one of those places that pays you for your clothes...but it's something like 60p for every 10kg. I don't have that much here! I'd be lucky to get over £2!

After being so ruthless I decided that the best course of action for me would be to have a bath. I think I deserved a treat and some rest and relaxation after the stress of actually doing something of a weekend!

So I did and it was very nice too! I even had a cheeky glass of rose brought to me by my wonderful husband as I chilled! Very nice too!

After my bath, I found someone else chilling and relaxing after their stressful day!

It really is hard being a Barney!

We had dinner of goat curry (made with lamb...) and watched some television. Paul then decided that he wanted to watch Match of the Day, so I came back up to my favourite place in the world - bed. I had the 80s radio show on, a G&T in hand and my book! Wonderful!

Thursday, 24 April 2014

18th April 2014 - Good Friday...

Also known as Lazy Friday or Caroline can't be bothered to get out of bed day!

Well...when you're given a free day off, it would be rude to get out of bed!

We listened to the radio, drank tea and generally chilled out! I wanted to rest my ankle in the hope it would continue to improve. So lying in bed doing not a lot is the best way to do it, I think!

We watched some movies to make the day go better, and watched The Boat that Rocked, Serenity and Now You See Me. A good afternoon's watching!

The cats kept us company, of course!

Maia likes it when I have the latop tray on the bed! She will start off on my knee and gradually make her way underneath the tray. Then she'll end up belly up with her paws ready to kick me just in case I am so rude and bold as to accidentally touch them while trying to type! It makes writing these blog posts really tough at times!

Barney, on the other hand, chilled out!

You can see that he really wanted to be there! :)

We had freezer surprise of chilli con carne for dinner (a surprise because we thought that it was sausage casserole when we took it out the freezer!) and caught up with the week's tv! We watched Shield, Arrow, Community and an episode of Person of Interest.

I also discovered that cats were just as awesome in pixelated form as well as in real life. In my Sims game, one of the family cats took on the Grim Reaper when he came to take his owner away and won! Aleksi was resurrected! Go CABBAGE (which is an awesome name for a cat and don't deny it)!

Then to bed!

17th April 2014 - Thursday but sort of Friday but still Thursday...

I didn't have the best night's sleep which is a shame. You'd think with having the WHOLE bed to myself I could spread out and have as much duvet as I liked. Nope. Barney stole it all. He decided to be Daddy. Thanks, Beep. It was quite nice to roll over and find him there, rather than the empty void where Paul should be. But Paul doesn't bite. Barney does.

I stayed in bed for as long as I could allow then got up and headed to work. Lots of audit work to do for BossMan T which took a lot longer than I thought it was going to. Plus the post and loads of phone calls. Still - at least it's a job, right?

After work I headed home and needed to amuse myself while waiting for Paul to get home. He wasn't due until about 7:30pm or so, so I pottered around, did some tidying up, watched a bit of tv...nothing exciting really.

While trying to find something to watch on Netflix, I discovered this bit of fail, which amused me!

Um...not sure Breaking Bad and Downton Abbey have anything in common really...except that there are people in it...I'm not sure Lord Grantham has ever particularly been interested in cooking up Crystal Meth. Not that I've asked him, mind!

Paul got home right on time and popped out to get some wine .We then ordered chinese takeaway and watched tv for a while.

Mmmmm...crispy duck pancakes!

We  didn't have an overly late night as we were both pretty shattered. Lucky for us, no work tomorrow!

16th April 2014 - Just me, myself and I

The alarm going off at 4:30am is not something that I particularly enjoy.

Paul got up, showered and left for a 2 day trip to Glasgow. I stayed in bed and wished that I could get back to sleep. By 7:30am I might have got another half an hour or so, max.

Work was it's usual boring self. My ankle was feeling a little better, but I wore some sturdy lace-up boots today to help support it and I think it definitely helped. Limping is so unattractive!

After work I headed out to Matalan, as my ankle was feeling a little better. I got a couple of new tops. I was hoping to get some black lace up flat boots, as the ones I was wearing are brown and really don't look right with my office wear. I failed. But the tops are pretty so at least there is some good!

I got home to discover I had a bit of mail. I awkwardly bent down to pick it up and my trousers promptly split. GREAT! Glad no one was around to witness that one! It's typical that this happens after I get back from clothes shopping. I'm going to need to go shopping AGAIN now for new work trousers. Urgh.

The post was our polling cards for the local elections at the end of next month. They've extended the voting hours now as well which is good as Paul usually struggles to get there. Now there is no excuse not to vote!

This now means that we'll get the usual flurry of leaflets through the door, each party bitching about the others and not really saying what they will do to make it better. We do read through it all to see if they actually do state anything that might be of interest. Generally it is just bitching though. Doesn't make me want to vote for you, political parties. Sorry.

Chris couldn't make it over tonight, sadly, so I really was just on my own. :( Ah well. I ate leftover Puerto Rican chicken and rice for dinner and watched a bit of tv. Very dull evening. I couldn't really be bothered and was pretty tired so went to bed early, read for a while and went to sleep. Nothing really noteworthy.

15th April 2014 - Justice for the 96.

Today really was a nothing of a day!

We didn't gym as my ankle was still sore. I told Paul he could go without me but he didn't want to. Any excuse, eh?! Well, I can't judge as I'm just the same!

I got to work a little earlier this morning and was the one to make the hot drinks. I'm nice and include everyone. Maybe I shouldn't be so nice!

I was pretty busy all day, which was a good thing as the day went really quite fast. I got the majority of my work done before lunch, but still knuckled down in the afternoon.

Today marks 25 years since the Hillsborough Disaster where 96 Liverpool Football Club fans lost their lives. There was a memorial service on in the afternoon to mark the anniversary and it was on the news so T and I had it on in the background.

There was a terrible cover up at the time of the incident by many parties and it's not for me to make comment as I'm not fully learned in the subject, but at the time the initial verdict was that of 'accidental death'. People were not having that and rightly so. So many things that could have been prevented went wrong that day.I hope that the new inquest that has just started will work things out.

After work I hobbled home, still in pain, but no rest for the wicked today. Instead I did some washing up and some tidying up that needed doing as best as I could on one leg. Hopping while washing up is messy and not ideal. I don't recommend it.

Paul got home from work and showed me a prize he'd won today!

It's an Easter egg! YAY! We don't do Easter Eggs any more so it's nice to have one in the house! My only query - why do they put mugs in with them?! People who get a lot of easter eggs probably have loads of these things! Just make the eggs bigger or put another packet of the differentiating delicious treat inside! WE DON'T WANT THE MUGS!

Actually, we haven't got that many 'normal' sized mugs so I suppose we can use this one. That plea was for families who have a cupboard dedicated to Easter mugs!

There really was nothing of interest on the tv tonight so we had dinner, chilled a little then I headed to bed to read for a while. Paul's away tomorrow night so had to pack and I offered helpful and motivating opinions as he packed.

He then massaged my legs again. It hurt even more tonight. There might have been tears and screams. I'm not in a good way.

Then it was time for sleep. The alarm is going off at silly o'clock tomorrow and I'm not looking forward to it.

14th April 2014 - Happy Birthday Koran!

It's my lovely friend Koran's birthday today! She helped me a lot last year with all the weddingy stuff (plus her causing my love and adoration of gin!) so she deserves a little shoutout!

We didn't go to the gym this morning as we both found it very difficult to sleep last night. I guess that's the problem with getting in late. It takes a little to wind down.

So off to work we went, not really wanting to go. I was slightly later than I usually am, by all of 5 minutes or so, but still 10 minutes early. I get to my desk to discover that everyone has a nice hot drink made for them. Except me. It wasn't T, as she'd have made me one, so it was one of the other two. BossMan T doesn't make drinks for everyone so that leaves A. Who I have to report to if i'm not coming in to work. So he knew I was going to be in, but didn't think when pouring into 3 other cups 'I'll make one for Caroline as well'.

That annoyed me. So I made a LOT of noise when making a drink for myself. Not offering anyone else one. I am tired and this put me in a bad mood!

I got over my bad mood for a little while, then discovered I was limping. Yeah. I hadn't noticed until T pointed it out! Turns out my ankle hurts. No idea why or how as I haven't done anything to it. I think my left calf is a little tight and it's taking it's toll maybe? I don't know. I'm not an expert on these things.

After getting home, somehow, I did a few chores and then decided that the best thing for me would be to relax a little and elevate my ankle. Paul made dinner and we watched Hawaii 5-0 and Game of Thrones.

We had Puerto-Rican chicken and rice for dinner from a Levi Roots cookbook. It was REALLY nice! Definitely going to be made again!

After Thrones I decided I wanted to head to bed as I was still pretty tired and my ankle wasn't feeling any better.

I can't decide if it looks bruised or not. I think there a little patches of purple but no real swelling. Just pain.

I asked Paul to massage my calves a little to see if that helped. A whole realm of pain was opened up. Not a good way to send oneself to sleep!

13th April 2014 - Long Day!

Early starts on a Sunday aren't nice. When you're going on a trip to the Midlands to see people you love, however, it certainly makes them more bearable!

We left the house at about 9:30am to start our nice journey to Lichfield. We popped in to see Mum first of all and delivered her Mothering Sunday gift. Yes, it was a couple of weeks ago, but I haven't seen her! While we had a quick brew, Sophie made herself at home in my handbag!

She was very cozy in there indeed!

Chuckles was far more impressed with stair stretches!

A perfectly Charlie-sized step there!

We then headed over to my brother and sister-in-law's house to go and see them. Yeah yeah, alright, we went to see Edward! He was 6 weeks old yesterday! AW! He's got much bigger and even cuter!

My bro made us lunch while we tried to get Edward to have a sleep but he didn't seem like sleeping was what he wanted to do. So Annabel and I took him for a walk around the estate while Paul and Michael watched the football.

When we got back, he didn't seem like he wanted to sleep then either, so he had a feed and had his bum changed by my bro. That I had to see. Michael changing a nappy!

Obviously I didn't take a pic of the actual nappy changing, but had to get a pic of Michael and Edward together! At least it's not an offensive face my bro is pulling! Can't have him ruining the picture now!

Michael and Annabel seemed to enjoy their chocolatey treats! I hope they last longer than the night!

Edward had some time on his play mat and I decided to join him on the floor! I wanted play time too! He liked having ribbon stroked over his face, which was very cute and my hair also seemed to work!

He's also got a vice-like grip as my finger got to know! I was more than happy to oblige! How can I turn such a cutiepie down?!

After the football finished, we headed back to Lichfield and went to see my friends Steve and Danni who had their little boy Toby last weekend!

I made him a card, if you remember - this is what it looked like!

I'm quite pleased with it! Yes, I do have copious amounts of blue buttons...why do you ask?!

Anyway, didn't take any pictures there, but suffice to say that Toby is tiny and very cute indeed! He looks even tinier when in Daddy's arms! He was 3 weeks premature but seems to be very happy and healthy and both parents are looking well and happy!

We also gave them chocolatey treats and again, seemed to be a winner! So Mars Bar Rice Krispie cakes and cookies as a staple 'visiting parents' dish it seems!

After about an hour we headed back to Mum and Dad's house for dinner! YAY! More free food!

There I followed Chuckles into the garden and discovered that my parents no longer have a water butt but a Charlie statue instead!

A much more aesthetically pleasing addition to the garden I think!

When Dad got home and we'd caught up we had Roast Lamb and veg for dinner. Very delicious it was too! Then after a short break we had a chocolate and raspberry torte thing (not really my cuppa) followed by cheese! Dinner at my parents is always good! :)

After dinner Mum asked me to go through some of my old stuff so she could have a bit of a clear out and we started looking at some old pictures she had gotten when she cleared out my Grandma's house. Her dad was a bit of a keen photographer and also wanted to get into forensics (he was in the police force already) but sadly passed away before trying to achieve his dream. He did have albums of pictures he took re-creating crime scenes and people playing dead. There's one of him pretending to be 'passed' lying on the hood of a car. Complete with his moustache, he looked very Humphrey Bogart! Very distinguished indeed!

We headed home not too late, as we both have to work tomorrow (boooo) but came in and had a cheeky gin and tonic before remembering we had stripped all the bedding and needed to make it again before we could get in it.

A lovely day.

12th April 2014 - Future plans!

Woke up this morning feeling fine! I like it when that happens! Of course, after a couple of cups of tea I felt even better!

We chilled out a fair amount first thing, then got ourselves together for a road trip. For the first time in a long time, possibly even ever, we managed to leave the house at the time we had planned to! It's different when there's a fixed appointment but we didn't have that today, so it's a miracle!

We headed off to sunny Stockton Heath, where I took my phone in to a fabulous little shop to get it repaired. The only thing not-so-fabulous about it was the price! That hurt. But necessary if I wanted my phone back! It's all shiny and working again now! WIN! Just best take out insurance me thinks!

It took an hour to get repaired so we thought we'd take a look around. It's a pretty nice little town. We looked at house prices and they weren't actually that bad! Even better. It's somewhere we could see ourselves living in a few years, so that's a decision kinda made! Even if it's not Stockton Heath itself, we could move around the area. It's not cheap, like where I am now, but it's not the worst it could be! We might have to settle for an ugly new build, which sucks, but the energy efficiency would be good.

We got back home and then headed out pretty much straight away. We did some shopping for the week and I needed ingredients for a bit of baking I planned on doing!

When we got home, I cracked on with said baking. First up - Mars Bar Rice Krispie Squares!

BossMan T's daughter gave me the recipe for these years ago! Melting loads of mars bars with butter to make the base of the cake...ick. So sickly!

It kinda looks like stew? A little bit? The nougat took AGES to melt. I thought it never would!

While that's melting, measure out the rice krispies, then stir the two together!

Once evenly combined, spread in a pan like so!

Then top with plain chocolate. I doubled what it said in the recipe as that was to dribble it over the top. I wanted a nice layer to counter-act the sickly sweetness of the base!

Et voila!  It then went into the fridge overnight to chill!

I then made some oaty chocolate chip cookies to go as well. That recipe is more complicated and if I make them again I will amend it a little as they were quite bitter. Perhaps that's after the sweetness of the mars bar cakes, though?

I made quite a lot of mess, as I always seem to do when baking, so I cleaned that up a little while Paul made dinner.

During dinner we watched Silver Linings Playbook, which was very good. We then chilled in front of the tv for the rest of the evening. Didn't have too late a night though. Busy day tomorrow.

Thursday, 17 April 2014

11th April 2014 - The end of the week. Finally!

I have never been so happy to get to Friday! I love Friday!

We got up and went to the gym. Paul ran and I did weights. It was a good session! I didn't really want to go when I first woke up but we were glad we went!

From there it was another working day. Another yawnsome working day full of the same old same old! T was only in for a half day so I was quite lonely for the rest of the afternoon! I got the work done and counted down the hours and minutes for the end of the day!

I then came home and waited for Paul to come back. And waited. And waited some more. He was in a meeting that went on for AGES! I decided I needed cheering up and needed something to giggle at, so put old episodes of Mock of Week on to be entertained! I enjoyed it! They were really quite old but no less amusing!

Maia was watching as well. She's a big fan of Russell Howard I think!

When Paul got home he had come via the shops and brought pizza with him! SUCCESS!

Looks delicious, right? It was. Just the right amount but as I type I could TOTALLY eat more!

There was nothing else really on tv so we kept watching Mock the Week until we saw that there was a 90s music 'brit-pop' special on, so we switched to that instead!

Paul was alarmed by some of the terrible music that the 90s had back in the day!

I went to bed. Paul kept watching! I need some beauty sleep!
