25th February 2012

The film didn't freak me out all night. Yay! The cats decided to use me as a human trampoline from the hour of 1am to 8am.

I got up. Because if I stayed in bed, I probably would have ended up throwing both cats out the window. Ok, not really, but I would have been  in a bigger grump for the rest of the day! Believe me, I was already pretty grumpy!

The above image was taken from SyFy channel in the UK. I was waiting for Buffy to come on, so I could chill with a brew and watch Buffy kick some ass. Instead, bloody infomercials (I think they are called) were on LOOOOOONG repeat. The 'Ahh Bra'...seriously?! It's hideous! Then this JML advert for the 'Magic Bullet' (which to me sounds like something you'd buy in Ann Summers). Some overly cheery american lady making vegetable shakes so easily. The above image featured a drink made of brocolli, other green veg, carrots and beetroot. The above guy was so convincing when he said "you can't taste the vegetables at all" SERIOUSLY...I don't believe for a single second that this guy actually means that. The worst infomercial actor in the history of the world. Even his face is unconvincing.

Aherm. Move on from this rant, Hartley!

These are my battle scars. I have not been self harming, for the record. My darling Maia decided I didn't have enough life-long reminder scars of her. Yeah. These hurt.

Paul came home! He brought me these!

I especially enjoy the crazy tropical looking flower in the middle. No idea what it is!

Did about 1/3 of the ironing today. So will be finishing that off tomorrow! Crazy rock n roll lifestyle!

24th February 2012

Is it wrong to find horror films hysterical?! Especially when so many people are literally screaming?!

Tonight Chris and I went to see The Woman in Black. And laughed. Until we got home to our empty houses...

I may sleep with the light on...

While we're talking about scary things - the fact that a wedding magazine is trying to sell dresses off the back of such shite is worrying.

Seriously?! Twilight romantics?! I don't think the two words go together! "Hey boy who sparkles that I've only just met; I am so full of angst and will die without you...so yeah, kill me so we can live together in sparkly love cringiness for the rest of forever..."

That's pretty much the story summarised right there for those of you who haven't read it. There are also some waxed-chested werewolves in there. Don't float my boat, I'm afraid. I'm Team Buffy! :)

On that note, I'm going to bed, to snuggle with some sort of weaponry, in case The Woman in Black comes to get me!

23rd February 2012

It's a beautiful day in Liverpool today! Could have been summer. Shame it won't last...

Tiramisu helps too...

Naughty Wednesday indeed. Isn't it weekend yet?!

21st February 2012

Happy Shrove Tuesday!

Except we didn't have pancakes!

What we did have was Italian Shepherds Pie. Homemade by my fabulous fiancé!

Before...

After...

And there's enough left for tomorrow! Score!

You can find the recipe here. Ignore the one star review. As my good friend Chris will testify, IT'S AMAZING! Although that might just be because Paul makes it and he's amazing! :)

20th February 2012

Barney has a new toy courtesy of Lucy.

Yes, it's Rudolph. It's his Christmas present a little late!

It has a sucker attached to glass and hangs down on elastic. It may be the best thing ever.

Please ignore the patchy plaster round the door!

Although I am worried he may fall through the floor...

I can neither confirm nor deny that it was Barney that caused the cracked plaster...

19th February 2012

So as I mentioned yesterday, today I went to by best friend's baby's first birthday party! I can't believe she's one already!

<>

This is how she looked when I first met her. She's approx a week old here. Gorgeous. See adoring daddy looking on in awe!

<>

Here she is now, 1 year and 1 day old! She was smiling at Paul all afternoon, then when I come to take a pic, she turns into a grumpy chops! Michelle (holding her) was tickling her and everything. No avail.

<>

Here's a pic of that cheeky grin, taken in December, so you all can see my adorable little flowergirl to be! :)

I promised Lucy that I'd make her a lemon drizzle cake for the party, as it's Chris (A's Dad)'s favourite. As it's probably the thing I bake best, I thought 'why not?!'

Here's the cake batter, pre-mixing. Flour, sugar, lemon peel, butter, lemon curd, lemon juice and eggs. And, of course, my secret ingredient! ;)

Post-mixing. Nice and light and fluffy!

Into the baking tins they go, to be baked for 40-45 minutes!

Voila! The finished product! Happy First Birthday, Poopy Pants! :O)

Yes, that was mummy-approved. I usually write something obscene on any cakes for Lucy, so this was a compromise! I can't swear to a 1 year old!

Oh joy. Back to work tomorrow. Didn't I only just leave that place?
