It's set to be the hottest day of the year today. So naturally I'm in work.
Only after gymming with Paul though. We did some upper body weights. It was tough. Even the gym's lowest weight level was too heavy for me. They clearly aren't used to girls lifting dumbells there!
It was a long day. And yes, a very warm one. Colleague T and I were on our own most of the day, and Bossman A came in for about an hour, did the post and then left. He said we could go early. 15 minutes early. Generous, no?
When I was walking home, I noticed this sign by the station.
Seriously. If people really are that desperate for someone to deliver them McD, KFC or Subway then I really despair at what the world is coming to.
When I got home, Paul and I made the decision to embrace the local culture and sit out the front of our houses and enjoy the last of the day's sunshine. It was nice! We also had decisions to make because on Monday we have to speak to the registrar and organise our wedding ceremony!
We had to go through the paperwork they had sent us, pick our vows and any other enhancements ready to meet with them. What better place to do it than in the sunshine?!
Ok, so just for the record, I can't take the Southport Registrar seriously because all their forms and information are typed in Comic Sans MS. Seriously. This is a professional company and they use that font. Amazing.
While I was reading through the important stuff, Paul was watching the cricket on the laptop. England were doing very well so who was I to stop him?!
We had someone want to join us:
Maia has been outside before, but only when she escapes. She was allowed to come out and sit on my knee but not free roam. She would have run under one of the parked cars and taken hours to come back in again.
Once the sun went behind the house, it was still pleasant but we decided to take the party indoors and watch some more tv. With nothing new to catch up on, we went for something old!
Go to love The OC. Nothing like looking at how the other side live.
I sent Paul out for some supplies and watched the pretty people of Orange County in their every day lives. With a nice cooling Gin and Tonic or two...of course. :)
Random rantings, thoughts and sightings by someone who probably has better things to do but no desire to do them!

18/07/2013 - Another sizzler!
Seriously, we had snow in March and now we're having the hottest summer we've had in a really long time! What is going on, weather people?!
You'll be very proud of us. We got up and went to the gym! I did some kinetic weights on my arms, complete with some stepper in between. I also did some squats and lunges. Those were HARD!
All I wanted to do when we got back from the gym is lie down and sprawl out to cool down and rest.
Barney took that role from me. I had to leave him to be sprawled in the heat and go to work so I could afford to feed him and house him.
My job today: re-organise the filing cabinets.
They weren't being used to their best capability. I had to fix that. On a hot day I have to lift and move heavy files. Gee, that made me happy.
These are my babies. I think I've got them more efficient than before. I hope so, any way. It took me ages and it was hard work!
After work it was time for more doing nothing (I will stop that soon), watching some TV and catching up a little on my blogs. I have been slacking of late. Sorry, readers.
I don't really have anything exciting to tell you either. I need to do exciting stuff again!

17/07/2013 - Plink Plinky Plink
It's still jolly toasty over here! We're still not sleeping very well but it's not the end of the world. We don't get a summer very often so we should make the most of it, right?
Sadly, I'm not sure The Barnacle agrees.
His belly dots are too warm!
He's laid full length across the bottom of the bed (please note that he is pretty much the same size, if not more, than half a king size bed!) in front of the fan. He's blocking it to the extent that we can barely feel it!
I headed to work and did the work thing. I went out for another stroll in the sun, and got some air. The sunshine was lovely!
After work I came back home for #Whedonsday!
We've been busy for the last 2 weeks so it was nice to come back to some Whedony goodness.
Tonight we finished Dollhouse Season 1. It was great! I'm looking forward to a few weeks' time when we start Season 2!
Ah yes, Dollhouse was great. Some of it doesn't make sense, but hey - that's what Season 2 is for, right!?
After Chris headed out on his trek back to his homeland, on a train under the Mersey (not quite as catchy as the ferry version, right?!) we headed up to bed. You really feel the heat as you walk up the stairs! It hits you! To the extent I contemplated sleeping on the kitchen floor!

16/07/2013 - Not quite according to plan.
We were supposed to get up and go to the gym this morning.
Sadly, I woke up at silly o'clock with a really bad migraine. I took pills at about 4am, hoping they would have kicked it a few hours later so I could go to the gym. It hadn't. I stayed in bed.
This isn't how today was supposed to go!
I managed to make myself get to work and take more pain killers. I made it through to lunch time when I needed to go out to get air.
After taking a stroll I managed to feel better, which is a relief.
Once I got home, no rest for the wicked. Holiday washing needed sorting out.
Bear in mind that there was another load as well as this one.
Urgh.
We caught up on more tv and relaxed some more. I have so much stuff to do...but doing nothing just feels so much better!
As it's so warm we're really not sleeping well, so another early night was needed. It's a hard life.

15/07/2013 - Well...I'm back.
Monday morning means it's time to go back to work. This sucks. As soon as you're back in work it feels like years since you were on holiday!
We knew it would be a difficult get up this morning, so we missed the gym and instead went straight to work.
I was super efficient this morning. I actually surprised myself! I managed to get loads done, so I really must have been slacking before I went away!
It's lovely weather in the UK at the moment. Scorchio. I needed one or two of these today!
At least I was used to it after last week away, right?

Both Paul and I were shattered after work so we skipped Circuit Training as well. We're so bad. We have to ease ourselves back into gymming though. Don't want to pull a muscle.
With our nice healthy dinner, we caught up on some of the TV that we missed whilst we were away then went to sleep. Quiet but needed lazy evening.

14/07/2013 - It's good to be back!
There's nothing better than waking up in your own bed, is there?
Actually there is. Waking up in your own bed with your kitty cats whom you have missed so much! Sadly I didn't get to do that.
The cattery didn't open til 10am and we were awake early so we had to wait ages to go and get them. It was horrible!
We got to the cattery and paid up. We then went to get them! Barney was being friendly and when the door was open, he decided to go and talk to the other cats. Maia, on the other hand was very pleased to see me and happily got into her travel box. Barney did not want to come. Not only did Maia cry all the way home but Barney joined in. In fact, he may have been louder than Maia!
I think they were glad to be back. Even though it's really warm!
Kisses for Mama!
Barney was hoping the pile of bridal magazines would cool him down. They didn't.
I unpacked the 'dirty' suitcase (we put all the clean stuff in one suitcase and dirty stuff in the other) put it all in the laundry basket. I didn't wash any of it. One step at a time.
We then chilled a little more and watched some tv. And tried to cool down with a little bit of something fizzy!
Very delicious. I could use a glass of that right now. Sadly, we're all out.
We chilled, at loads of veg and then decided to have an early night. First day back at work tomorrow and all that!
Someone is clearly an expert on the relaxation front!

13/07/2013 - Mes vacances: Dernières heures
Early morning. The last few hours. Gorgeous view!
Such a lovely morning.
We finished packing up and made the most of all the last minutes we had in our holiday home. We sure love that place!
Pretty flowers again.
Pretty Paul!
Paul's parents' drove us to the airport and we were there ridiculously early. So we sat around in the restaurant, slowly drinking our drinks until we were able to drop off our bags. We then ate some very 'bready' sandwiches and went to look at the sign to check our flight. It said that the gate was closed. WHAT?! It's nowhere near time for the flight! Heart palpitations ago-go, we headed to the gate at an alarming rate, and the panic was open. It was closed because it hadn't opened yet!
We were one of the first few on the plane, which is a rare thing for us, and then, even better, we got moved!
As Paul is so tall, we were given the door seats and we got loads of extra leg room! SCORE! We paid extra attention to the safety announcements and cards just in case the plane broke down.
Guess what. The plane broke down. The brakes. Broke. We were about to leave and the Captain told us that there was a problem with the brakes so we couldn't take off. Urgh.
It delayed us for about 30 minutes. We slept through them. Then we took off and came back home!
Yeah. I wasn't a bit terrified.
We got back safe and sound and were out of the airport pretty quickly. However, not quick enough enough to be able to pick up the cats today. We'll have to get them tomorrow. This makes me sad. :(
Unable to face unpacking this evening, we ordered a curry and watched "One for the Money" - based on the first of the Stephanie Plum books by Janet Evanovich books that I've been reading this week!
That's the trailer. It's not had very good reviews. It was fun. Not the best. But fun!
I also had a look at some other little 'joys' I brought home with me.
F###ing mosquitoes.

Sleepy time. We were both knackered and missed our bed. Shame there were no kitties to join us though. :(
